Tumor Debulking Options : Precision Radiation
IMRT , SBRT, and the Cyberknife may be several non-surgical options used to remove some or all of your tumors. With surgery, there is always a risk of spreading or seeding your tumors. Recovery time from precision radiation can be very quick and the side effects seem to be minimal.
IMRT
Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatment (IMRT) is a method of treatment that is able to conform radiation to the size, shape and location of the treatment site. With IMRT, a radiation oncologist is able to deliver the best dose of radiation to a tumor site while limiting the dose to surrounding normal tissue.
SBRT
Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) is a method of treatment that enables radiation to conform to the size, shale, and location of the treatment site. With SBRT, a radiation oncologist is able to deliver the best dose of radiation to a specific area while limiting the dose to surrounding normal tissue.
The painless, minimally invasive therapy uses stereotactic body mapping made possible with specially designed equipment that accounts for natural body motion (including breathings) to ensure the precision of radiation beams aimed at the tumor.
Cyberknife
Stereotactic radiosurgery is a medical procedure that utilizes very accurately targeted, large “killing” doses of radiation. This noninvasive “operation” has proven to be an effective alternative to surgery or conventional radiation for treating many small tumors and a few other select medical disorders.
